Paintings and Drawings
337 paintings were included in Ines Schlenker’s Catalogue Raisonné of 2009, (one more painting has recently surfaced), of which 250 were part of Marie-Louise’s estate at the time of her death. These have now been given to public collections or sold commercially by the Charity, through Galerie St Etienne in New York 2010-15, then at auction and by private treaty sale between the end of 2020 and 2024 through Chiswick and Olympia Auctions in London. This means the catalogue raisonné of 2009 is no longer accurate as a guide to the location of work that was not already in public collections prior to its publication. Paintings in publicly accessible collections will remain visible on this web site until it is closed down in April 2026.
Marie-Louise made over 2,000 drawings including more than 100 sketchbooks. Many of them were done preparatory to her paintings but very few were signed and dated. Almost all the drawings from the artist’s estate have now been given to public collections, principally Tate’s Archive as well as to a number of museums where they hold related paintings.
